There is nothing quite as thrilling as watching a soloist or a group of soloists do their best in an applauding dance competition. It really brings out the competitive juices when both contestants are brought together at the same moment and are judged by one another. The judges then decide who moves on to the next round by scoring a certain number of points. There are typically two types of applauding competitions: the horizontal line and the vertical line.
The horizontal line dance is probably the oldest form and is performed on a straight line, consisting of four walls. The judges score it based on grace, technique, emotion and originality. In order for a dancer to move to the next level they must score at least five out of ten.
The most difficult line is the vertical line, as it usually has three to nine walls. At the end of the performance the dancers must perform a difficult dance routine, then the audience votes for the winner. They can choose to give them accolades, special gifts or even cash. There is only one winner at the end of the show.
The evening will conclude with a dinner to celebrate the performance and possibly a bonus opportunity to perform at a charity event. You may be asked to provide choreography for a specific show that evening. This is a great way to get experience as well as learn new skills. As well as learning new skills it could result in you securing a job in the future. To enter a chorus, all you need is a dancing talent and a video recording of your best work. It must be less than thirty seconds long and you must not have previously appeared on stage or been involved in similar shows.
If you are serious about entering a chorus, you should find out all you can about the company and the competition. If you want to take part in an audition, arrange to be there early. This is important as the earlier you arrive, the better chance there is of making it through to the end of the competition. Have your stuff together and prepared for the audition, so you know what you will need to bring to the audition.
When looking to take part in a dance competition, it is always good to have an idea of how to dress. You do not want to have a panic attack and decide to wear something that is completely wrong. Your outfit will also affect the way you feel. If you look good and feel confident then it will show and you will be much more likely to win.
